Free software, such a Linux and OpenOffice can offer organisations considerable savings. This one day course is being held at the Moseley CDT. The course will be mainly practical, a chance to work on a Linux Terminal Server Project system (http://www.ltsp.org), exploring the practical use of this low cost and sustainable solution.

The course will cover:
  • The potential of Free Software
  • How thin clients work
  • Cost and support savings
  • Practical issues around deployment

Outline Schedule:

10:00 - Introduction and practical session using a thin client
11:00 - Comparisons of costs and benefits of Free Software
12:00 - Example of adding software
12:30 - Lunch
13:00 - Practical session managing users
14:00 - Management of change issues
15:00 - Practical session reviewing potential for each organisation.

The cost of the course will be £80 for the day for charities and voluntary organisations.
